Van Ann Chocolate Factory was founded in 1992 and named after its founder, Ann Van Den Bergh.
Born in Belgium in 1958, Ann arrived in Mauritius in 1983 and decided to start producing chocolate.
She imported her raw material (a 5 kg dark chocolate bar) from Belgium, which she melted in a saucepan and molded into ice cube molds. The product, unique to Mauritius at the time, was well-liked and attracted the attention of several hotels. Professional tempering machines and molds were purchased, and the local airline, Air Mauritius, decided to distribute the famous "Maison Créole" box filled with two chocolates on all its flights.
